Raphael’s fight for His life-the little boy who refused to give up

The Beginning of EdenHaus — Our Maine Coon Madness Continues, Part 3 Remember where we left off? Raphael had battled FIP, completed his treatment, and we thought the worst was behind us.We were wrong. Our precious boy relapsed. And this time, things became so much worse.

The Day I Thought I Was Losing Him

Raphael was terribly sick. He had lost so much weight, and despite everything we were doing, he continued to decline. We had already spent countless hours, sleepless nights, and more money than I care to remember trying to save him. But how do you put a price on a life you've fallen completely in love with? You don't. Our veterinarian had done everything she could, but eventually she came to me with the words no pet owner ever wants to hear. There was no hope. She believed it was time to let Raphael go. I began to cry. I couldn't believe that after everything we'd been through, this was how our story was going to end. She asked me to come with her so I could say goodbye while she administered the medication. And so I went….

Heartbroken.

Not ready.

But unwilling to let my little boy face his final moments alone.

But Raphael Had Other Plans

The veterinarian administered medication to put Raphael to sleep. Except something extraordinary happened. He didn't go to sleep. My veterinarian couldn't believe it. And then she said something I will never forget. "He's obviously fighting for his life, so I'll fight for him!" She decided to perform exploratory surgery to find out what was happening inside his little body. But she warned me. She still didn't believe he would survive. I sat in the waiting room, crying, waiting for someone to come tell me my beautiful boy was gone. Instead, my veterinarian came out with news I never expected. Raphael was alive. During surgery, she had discovered lesions in his abdomen associated with his illness. She had removed them.

And somehow, against the odds, Raphael was stable.

I could hardly believe what I was hearing.

Another Chance at Life

The following day, I brought Raphael home. And we began another round of FIP medication. It wasn't easy. Recovery was long. There were difficult days, worries, and moments when I wondered whether we would ever reach the other side. But Raphael kept fighting. And we kept fighting alongside him. Little by little, he began to recover. His appetite returned. His strength returned. And that beautiful, mischievous Maine Coon personality began to shine again.

And Today?

Remember that tiny, desperately sick kitten who almost didn't make it? Well, today he's a big, fluffy EATING MACHINE! Seriously. You'd never believe this was the same little boy. After all those tears, all those medications, all those frightening days, and that terrible afternoon when I thought I was saying goodbye forever…Here he is. Living his life. Eating everything in sight. And reminding me every single day how grateful I am that we didn't give up. I'm also incredibly grateful for our veterinarian, who saw that little spark of fight in Raphael and decided to fight alongside him. And for our breeder, who recognized the possibility of FIP early, helped us obtain treatment quickly, and stood beside us through those frightening first days. Neither of them gave up on our boy.

The Beginning of Something Bigger

When we brought home our first two Maine Coons, I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. I certainly didn't expect to learn so much about a disease I'd never even heard of. And I never imagined that one fluffy little kitten would take us on such an emotional journey. But Raphael taught me something. These magnificent creatures aren't just beautiful cats. They become family. And sometimes, loving them means fighting for them with everything you've got. Raphael will never be part of our breeding program. But he will always be part of the story of EdenHaus.

Because before there was EdenHaus Luxury Maine Coons, there was a little white kitten named Raphael who simply refused to give up. And wouldn't you know it? Our Maine Coon madness was only getting started.

Stay tuned for more quirky, interesting, frustrating, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking Maine Coon madness as I share how EdenHaus began.

With love,

EdenHaus Luxury Maine Coons
